Restoran Tanjung Nelayan, Pendas, Gelang Patah, Johor

We decided to go to this seafood restaurant for our late lunch that day. Fad used to stay at Kg. Ladang which is just few KMs away from here. We had white rice with 3 dishes: sotong goreng tepung (fried squids), udang masak sambal (chillied prawns) and sayur campur (fried mixed vege), and I ordered Nasi goreng tanjung nelayan. I must say that the sotong goreng tepung is the best I have had so far as compared to all other seafood or tomyam restaurants.

Being a seafood lover, this place has always been on top of my list. The food tastes great, the prices are affordable and lower than others I had been to, and the views here are just excellent. For the past 4 years of working here in Gelang Patah, I lost count of how many times I had been here, either with friends or family or relatives.

It can be quite busy during weekend evenings and public holidays, sometimes with Singaporean families. The fishes, squids, prawns and other sea products are very fresh, as most of the people in the surrounding villages are fishermen. The restaurant is situated just next to Pendas Jetty (some say it is Kg. Ladang Jetty). Just follow the signboard to Pendas, and you will find the signboard to Pendas, and you will find this restaurant on your left at the end of the road (end of the road is the jetty itself).

The menu is extensive, but the followings are what I usually have, and highly recommended:

Fish dishes:
  • Ikan siakap stim sos nyonya (nyonya sauce steamed fish)
  • ikan siakap stim halia (ginger steamed fish)
  • ikan siakap goreng 3 rasa / masam manis (sweet and sour fried fish)
Prawn dishes:
  • Udang masak sambal (chillied prawns)
  • udang goreng mentega (buttered prawns)
Squid dishes:
  • Sotong goreng tepung (fried squids)
  • sotong masak sambal (chillied squids)
Beef dishes:
  • Daging goreng kunyit (tumeric fried beef)
Chicken dishes:
  • Ayam goreng kunyit (tumeric fried chicken pieces)
  • ayam masak sambal / berlada (chillied chicken pieces)
Vege dishes:
  • Kailan goreng ikan masin (fried kailan with salted fish)
  • sayur campur (mixed fried vege)
  • kangkung goreng belacan (fried water spinach with shrimp paste)
 Tomyam:
  • Tomyam ayam (chicken)
  • tomyam daging (beef)
  • tomyam seafood
  • tomyam campur (mixed of chicken, beef, seafood)
Fried rice:
  • Nasi goreng tanjung nelayan
  • nasi goreng USA
  • nasi goreng kampung

If you are planning to bring a large number of people here, I would suggest that you call in at least an hour before your arrival to book, and order the main dishes first. The number to call is:

Tel : 07-5073414

One word of advice though: As the journey from JB is quite far (up to an hour depending on how fast you drive), you will feel hungry on your way there. Upon your arrival, you will be able to finish all the food in less than an hour. Then you will feel sleepy all the way back to JB (the backseat passengers may have been dozed off within 5 minutes of leaving the restaurant), and you will feel hungry again by the time you reach Jalan Skudai.

Restaurants Address is:
Restoran Tanjung Nelayan
No. 36, End Road Off Tanjung Kupang
Kampung Ledang
Gelang Patah, Johor
Malaysia.

Hahahahaha... that was what usually happened to me and whoever I brought every time I went there.
Hahahahahahahahahahah.

Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan SG @ Subang Jaya

I was amused when I first heard of a famous curry fish head restaurant in Subang Jaya 3K complex. 3K actually stands for Kompleks Kemudahan Kemasyarakatan which means public sports facility. This place has fitness gym, swimming pool, football field and badminton court. But when I was told about the restaurant, I was wondering how does it fit into the overall picture.

Strangely enough, the restaurant is there alright, located right next to the main entrance of this complex. It looks like a Malay owned restaurant judging by the signage.

What was even more surprising is the popularity of this place. The restaurant was literally packed with people during lunch hours.

My colleague ordered the set promotion which consists of a curry fish head, ayam madu (honey chicken) and mango salad for RM 38.
DSC_1041

The portion of the curry fish head was quite huge. The curry has a thick texture to it and tasted good. I find myself pouring a generous serving of the gravy on my plate of rice.
DSC_1032

The honey chicken has a slight sour-ish taste to it. I would prefer if it was a wee bit sweeter. But it was still nice.

They also have quite a variety of other stuff to try out.

For something different, we also took the Mee Goreng Mamak (RM 4.80). Suitable for those who prefer noodles than rice.

The Thai Tou Foo was another dish we ordered (RM 8). It has a sweet and sour taste to it. The tou foo was crispy on the outside.

And here is a picture of the big plate of omelet (RM 6) that came with the rest of the food.

Overall I do enjoy the food a lot. The large number of people coming to eat during lunch time is an indication of the good food that they serve there.

Restoran Nasi Arab Damsyik (Seremban)

Menu Foods Arabic in Malaysia

My wife and three sons, we took off from Putrajaya Negeri Sembilan to the car. Entry into the North South Expressway (NSE) through Toll-Bandar Baru Bangi. We came out of the PLUS through Toll Senawang and into Persiaran Senawang 1. After that, I'm turning into a car driven Jalan Paroi - Senawang. Stop at a restaurant of Damascus Arab Rice.

I really like the food from the Arabs in Jordan to learn more. After all, about 5 years in studying there. If feels to eat Arab food, I would find a suitable restaurant. It happened that afternoon our family through Jalan Paroi ~ Senawang in Seremban. Arrive at the restaurant, we ordered the menu 'Chicken and Mutton Rice Mandi' and drinks (Shai) hot tea and mango juice. Mandi Rice served with "Laban" (milk, such as "yogurt" with mint) sauce, "tohinah" and "salatah. "

Nasi Mandi Ayam (RM36)
Washing rice is quite popular on the menu states the Middle East. According to the history of this menu from the capital of Yemen and is also popular in Damascus, Syria.

I can be aware of this restaurant in Damascus, Arab Rice plans at the Nasi Lemak Kopi O TV9. Since then, I intend to try the cuisine menu. Before this, my family and I've been to a number of Arab restaurants in the Klang Valley and Cyberjaya.

Anyone who would like to try Nasi Arab Damascus in Seremban, the address is:

No 1, Jalan Bourgainvilla 1,
(Near Jalan Paroi - Senawang)
Bourgainvilla Park,
70400 Senawang, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

My family left home from Seremban to Kajang. Go to Kajang Seremban Highway (soon). Then through the Toll and Toll Setul Dam. We quickly out of the Kajang South toll.

Beriani Gam Putrajaya

He Is Indeed Special Menu Once

There was a small stage on the extreme end of the shack. It had an amateurish feel to it, complete with colorful lighting that used to amaze us back in the eighties. You know, those orange and green and red tinted bulbs. The first thought that ran in my mind was that the stage serves as some sort of platform for budding artists to showcase their talents come lunch or dinner time. And I thought that was really cool.

We were having lunch at Kafe Beriani on the afternoon of the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix. A pretty good choice, relatively speaking, as I was sure food at the circuit would be jacked up beyond the decibels of the roaring engines. And to be honest, if not for the race, I wouldn't have found a good reason to travel all the way to this part of the world to gam with the beriani.
Already in the newspapers about this cafe.

As we settled down to try what appeared to be a (huge) plate of rather mildly coloured grains and decorated with a handful of crackers, Zaiton Sameon was about to take the stage. If you have lived through the eighties in Malaysia (and Singapore, to an extend), you would have heard her name at least once. Or more specifically, her infamous song called recline. As we saw her, it hadn't crossed our minds that she was to perform that afternoon. We simply thought she was there to buy some berianis.
Then, backed by a band of musicians, she began to sing. There were less than a dozen watching her perform but she kept on going, with the same poise we witnessed back in the days of Juara Lagu 1987. One has got to respect this artist for still choosing to do what she loved as the twenty over odd years after recline had not been easy on her. I wish the best for her in the future, be it in her music career or in life.

The free-flowing dalcar that came with the rice was a happy potion. Fatty, but definitely happy as it was really flavorsome. One could almost see the half centimeter thick of glistening oil covering the mutton and dhal stew. We have a better word for that. Yes, rich. Now, why can't the mutton and chicken curries be as tasty as this? I drenched the rice with one whole bowl of dalcar and that was really satisfying. No regrets as I burnt it all out walking around the circuit and dashing to the carpark as the rain began to pour, when the race came to a halt.
Tad expensive too, if you ask me. At RM13 for the mutton and RM11 for the chicken sets, I would've expected a more memorable (tastier) gam. I could only applaud the solid portions.
There is also the cafe in Bend.

As for the trip down memory lane, now that was something else.

Something good.
